U.K. Singh
Aquatic educator. AUSTSWIM accredited. In the water since 1999.
The one who takes the frightened ones.
I have spent twenty-seven years standing in the shallow end of Singapore’s condominium pools, mostly with people who did not want to be there yet.
Some are four years old and will not put their face in. Some are forty and have never told anyone they cannot swim. Some have special needs. They all start the same way: in water they can stand up in, with nothing forced.
I am an accredited AUSTSWIM swim teacher and a certified Singapore Armed Forces life-saver, so alongside strokes I teach the part that actually keeps people alive: what to do when the water stops being a lesson.
