Not everyone teaches the nervous ones.

Most coaches want a swimmer already. I want the child who will not put their face in the water — and the adult who never learned and stopped admitting it.

Twenty-seven years at the shallow end, one person at a time. Babies, children, adults, special needs and disabled learners.

Low-resistance freestyle. Less thrashing, less effort, far more distance for the same breath.

Water Safety Inductions

A short, serious briefing that makes a pool safe for a whole group.

The fear ladder

Four rungs out of the shallow end.

We stay in water they can stand up in. Nothing is forced, nobody gets dropped in the deep end, and the lesson does not move on until they are ready. The first win is blowing bubbles — and it is a real one.

Once the face goes in, the body follows. We build the float slowly until it holds without a hand under the back. This is the moment a nervous swimmer starts trusting the water instead of fighting it.

Push, glide, roll, breathe. Timing before speed, always. This is where a learner stops surviving the water and starts using it — and where 2-beat freestyle begins.

The lap that changes how they see themselves. Twenty-seven years in, this is still the part I do this for — and it is usually the one the parents film.
